Personal Profiles

Simon Whiteside D.Arch (Kingston) RIBA

Simon graduated from the School of Architecture at Kingston School of Art (now part of Kingston University) in 1968.

He worked in London for a short time before moving to Norfolk where he was involved in a wide range of projects when working for Norwich practices including Feilden & Mawson and Lambert, Scott and Innes. While working for Fielden & Mawson he was project architect and designer of a national award winning scheme for the conversion of a redundant maltings complex in Beccles into apartments and a restaurant.

Simon set up in practice on his own in 1978, quickly establishing a reputation for working with a wide range of clients to fulfil their brief by providing a professional and high quality design service.

Since then he has received a Norfolk Society-CPRE Award in 1991 for the conversion of outbuildings in Pulham Market into craft workshops, and the Ian Howard award for high quality architectural design in 1995 for a group of new houses in Great Hockham, Norfolk.

Simon is actively involved in continuing professional development including the use of modern technology such as CAD for the application of both modern and traditional design and best building practices.

Pat Whiteside

Pat studied interior design at Kingston School of Art before moving to Norfolk with Simon in 1968.

Following a career break to bring up their children, she worked for George Barnes, Architect in Norwich, formed an antique furniture restoration business in partnership with her father, set up and for a while managed a branch office for a local estate agent, and more recently helped her son and his wife set up a company supplying and producing decorative goods and lighting for designers working in the leisure industry.

Pat was instrumental in helping Simon set up his own practice in 1978, and while this was becoming established she trained, qualified and worked as a farm secretary, gaining further valuable experience in business management and administration.

Having always provided administrative support, Pat now works full time in partnership with Simon as the practice manager, her background in design coupled with excellent management and organisational skills enabling her to play a fully active role in the practice.
